# ANP and the Natriuretic Peptides: How the Heart's Hormones Work

ANP (atrial natriuretic peptide) is a hormone your heart makes. It has two relatives, BNP and CNP, and together they are called the natriuretic peptides. These guides explain in plain words where each hormone comes from, which receptors it uses, how fast the body clears it, what the ASCEND-HF trial measured, and the three related medicines: carperitide, nesiritide and vosoritide.

How the clearance receptor NPR-C and the enzyme neprilysin remove natriuretic peptides.

- [What did the ASCEND-HF trial measure? Nesiritide in acute heart failure](https://www.formlaboratories.com/learn/natriuretic-peptides/ascend-hf-nesiritide-trial) - ASCEND-HF (NCT00475852) randomised 7,141 patients with acute heart failure to nesiritide or placebo. What the two co-primary endpoints were, the significance bar the dyspnoea result did not meet, and what the trial did not show.
