Think of a key cut to fit two locks. Tirzepatide is one molecule that researchers study at two receptors. A receptor is the part of a cell that picks up one kind of signal. One receptor picks up GIP and the other picks up GLP-1. This page is part of [the Perth research peptides hub](/learn/peptides-perth) and sits under [Peptides Perth](/peptides-perth). It keeps four kinds of record apart: papers, the Poisons Standard, the catalogue and a parcel. Each one answers a different question. This page gives no medical advice and no legal advice.

## Which research subject does "tirzepatide Perth" refer to?

Tirzepatide is a lab-made peptide that switches on two receptors, GIP and GLP-1. A peptide is a short chain of amino acids. Coskun and colleagues (*Molecular Metabolism*, 2018) name the research code LY3298176. They describe a 39-amino-acid chain with a fatty diacid at position 20. So a search for tirzepatide in Perth points first at a molecule with a research record. [The tirzepatide research guide](/research/tirzepatide) covers the compound in more depth.

GIP and GLP-1 are two gut hormones. Each has its own receptor. The papers describe tirzepatide as one molecule that fits both. That is a statement about the design of the molecule. It says nothing about any vial, any law or any lot. That is why the questions below come after this one.

## What does the Poisons Standard record for tirzepatide?

The October 2026 Poisons Standard lists tirzepatide in Schedule 4 and in Appendix L, clause 2. The instrument is F2026L01327. It is dated 28 September 2026 and starts on 1 October 2026. The heading of Schedule 4 is "Prescription only medicines and prescription animal remedies". Our tirzepatide hub read the entry on 14 October 2026. We have not checked the position since that date.

A schedule entry sorts a substance. It does not decide any person's legal position. A later edition of the Poisons Standard replaces this one, so every statement about it needs its date. [The WA scheduling explainer](/learn/peptides-perth/peptides-and-wa-law) sets out the federal layer and the Western Australian layer of law. This page records the federal entry only. It does not read WA state rules for tirzepatide.

The tirzepatide hub page [Is tirzepatide available in Australia?](/learn/tirzepatide/is-tirzepatide-available-in-australia) gives the same entry with links to the Federal Register of Legislation.

## Is research-use-only tirzepatide the same as Mounjaro?

No. Research-use-only tirzepatide is not Mounjaro. Mounjaro is the Australian brand name of a registered medicine that contains tirzepatide. The TGA register entry for Mounjaro is dated 23 December 2022. The tirzepatide hub states that no registration it lists covers research-use-only material. The two names sit on two different records.

Tirzepatide has three kinds of name. One is the brand name on a pharmacy shelf. One is the name in a trial report. One is the name in a laboratory catalogue. Each can fall under different rules, and mixing them up is the most common mistake on this topic.

The TGA update of 18 June 2024 says pharmacists can no longer compound medicines that contain GLP-1 receptor agonist analogues on or after 1 October 2024. The TGA compounding guidance, last updated 8 September 2026, says the same. This page is not legal advice.

## What question does each tirzepatide paper address?

Two sources support the research record on this page. Each answers a different kind of question. Coskun and colleagues (*Molecular Metabolism*, 2018) describe the peptide and its structure. Jastreboff and colleagues (*New England Journal of Medicine*, 2022) report SURMOUNT-1, a 72-week, double-blind trial of 2,539 adults. Its registry number is NCT04184622. This page gives no trial results. A paper about a molecule is not a test of any supplied lot.

The first paper is about the design of the molecule. The second is about how one trial was run. Neither says anything about a vial, a lot or a law. The trial registry entry is a public record of the trial plan. You can read it at ClinicalTrials.gov.

## What does the tirzepatide catalogue listing record?

The store lists tirzepatide as a freeze-dried research reference supplied for laboratory research use only. The catalogue records storage at 2-8 C. It points to a certificate library for the available report. A report describes only its named sample, so check it against the listed compound, amount and lot. [The lot number guide](/learn/peptide-quality-verification/what-a-batch-or-lot-number-lets-a-researcher-verify) explains how a lot code points to one production run.

This page has not opened any report. It makes no claim about what a current lot contains. Check the tirzepatide product page for what is listed today.

## Which part of the Perth journey can a tracking record answer?

Tracking can record a parcel's progress and an estimated delivery date. It does not establish identity, purity or legal permission. The store's shipping page says every order leaves Perth, Western Australia, packed and sent by Australia Post or CouriersPlease after payment has cleared. A tracking email follows when the order is packed and handed over. [The dispatch and tracking record](/shipping) is the whole of what this page draws on for the journey.

The shipping page says the outer packaging is plain and unbranded. It gives no sign of the contents or the store. Certificates of Analysis are available on request. The route is online only. There is no public counter or collection point. Perth is the place a parcel starts. Nothing here gives an address, opening hours or a place to visit.

## Comparison

Four records, four questions. Each column is one record. Each row states what it is drawn from, the question it answers and the question it cannot answer. The table separates the records. It does not rank them or compare products.

| Record detail | Papers and trial registry | Poisons Standard | Catalogue listing | Parcel tracking |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Drawn from | Coskun et al., Molecular Metabolism, 2018; Jastreboff et al., New England Journal of Medicine, 2022; NCT04184622 | Instrument F2026L01327, read 14 October 2026 | The store's tirzepatide product page | The store's shipping page: dispatch from Perth, tracking email after handover |
| Question it answers | Which molecule the papers describe and how the trial was run | Which schedule and appendix list tirzepatide in that edition | How the store names and stores the material it lists | Where a parcel is after handover |
| Question it cannot answer | Whether any supply is approved, or what any lot contains | Any person's legal position, or whether the entry changed after the check date | What a lot is or how pure it is, unless the report is read against the lot | What the contents are, or what the law says |

## Frequently asked questions

### Is tirzepatide in the October 2026 Poisons Standard?

Yes. Our tirzepatide hub read instrument F2026L01327 on 14 October 2026. It lists tirzepatide in Schedule 4 and in Appendix L, clause 2. The heading of Schedule 4 is "Prescription only medicines and prescription animal remedies". We have not checked the position since that date.

### Is research-use-only tirzepatide the same product as Mounjaro?

No. Mounjaro is the Australian brand name of a registered medicine that contains tirzepatide. The TGA register entry is dated 23 December 2022. Research-use-only tirzepatide is not Mounjaro, and no registration listed on our hub covers it.

### Does this page say whether tirzepatide is legal in Western Australia?

No. This page records the federal Poisons Standard entry and the date we read it. It does not read Western Australian state rules for tirzepatide. [The WA scheduling explainer](/learn/peptides-perth/peptides-and-wa-law) describes how the federal and state layers fit together.

### Which papers and trial registry entry does this page cite?

Coskun and colleagues (Molecular Metabolism, 2018) describe the peptide. Jastreboff and colleagues (New England Journal of Medicine, 2022) report the SURMOUNT-1 trial, registry number NCT04184622. This page gives no trial results. A paper about a molecule cannot show what any lot contains.
