Start with the honest bit, because it frames everything below. Almost all of the evidence here is cell cultures and rats. The first properly controlled human trial only began recruiting in 2026, and results are not expected until around 2027. BPC-157 is not an approved medicine anywhere.
With that said, here is where it came from. The stomach is a genuinely hostile place to be a piece of tissue, and in the early 1990s researchers looking into how the lining survives it described a protective substance in gastric juice. BPC-157 - the name is short for Body Protection Compound - is the stable synthetic peptide modelled on part of that sequence.
The obvious question, and the one the research has chased ever since, is whether that protective signalling only works in the stomach or does something similar elsewhere. So the studies went looking: gut lining first, then tendon and ligament, then blood vessels.
