Start with what it copies. Deep in your brain, the hypothalamus releases a hormone called GHRH - growth-hormone-releasing hormone. Its whole job is to travel a short distance to the pituitary gland and tell it to release growth hormone. Tesamorelin is a synthetic copy of that message with a small chemical cap added, which stops it being broken down as fast as the natural version.
That is the entire mechanism, and it is worth being precise about: tesamorelin contains no growth hormone and supplies none. It acts on the switch that makes the body release its own.
Now the part that needs care. This same molecule is the active ingredient in Egrifta, an FDA-approved prescription medicine used for one specific condition - abnormal abdominal fat build-up in people with HIV-associated lipodystrophy.
